Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account or using the Civility hosted service (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

Civility provides end-to-end-encrypted data sync and storage for applications. Because your content is encrypted on your device, you are solely responsible for safeguarding your password and recovery passphrase. If you lose both, we cannot recover your data.

3. Accounts

You must provide a valid email address and are responsible for activity under your account. You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to violate the law, infringe others' rights, or disrupt the Service (including attempting to exceed or circumvent quotas). We may suspend accounts that do so.

5. Plans, billing, and taxes

Paid plans are billed in advance through Stripe on a recurring basis until cancelled. Applicable taxes are added where required. You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Prices may change with notice.

6. Downgrades and cancellation

On downgrade or cancellation, your data is retained but any data above your new plan's quota becomes read-only until you return within the limit. We do not delete your data as part of a downgrade.

7. Refunds

Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable. Billing is managed through the Stripe customer portal.

8. Availability & disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Civility's aggregate liability arising from the Service is limited to the amount you paid in the twelve months preceding the claim.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms; material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
