Prefer to run it yourself?
Civility is open and self-hostable — the hosted service runs the same code you can deploy on your own hardware, with tiers and billing disabled by default. See the hosting docs to get started.
FAQ
Can the operator read my data?
That depends on the app. Apps that enable end-to-end encryption encrypt change payloads and blobs on your device before upload — the server stores opaque ciphertext it can never decrypt. Apps that don't use encryption store data the server can read, which is what lets them offer features like AI. Each app tells you which model it uses when you connect it. See Security for the architecture.
What happens if I downgrade?
Your data is never deleted. If you exceed the lower tier's quota, the data above it becomes read-only until you're back within the limit — you keep full read access the entire time.
How is payment handled?
Payments are processed by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's hosted checkout — Civility never sees or stores them.
Which tax jurisdictions are supported?
At launch, checkout is available in the jurisdictions Stripe Tax handles automatically. Support expands over time.
